The Graduate Institute of Russian Studies (GIRS) at National Chengchi University (NCCU) was established in August 1994 with the purpose of cultivating Russian experts to develop Taiwan’s diplomatic, economic, and cultural relations with Russia, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), and Central-Eastern European countries.
Combined with theory and practice, the institute’s interdisciplinary courses are conducted by both full-time faculty members and adjunct professors from several departments and colleges on campus. In addition, the institute invites distinguished guest scholars from the CIS to promote academic exchanges and raise the university’s international academic status.
To become one of the best academic institutions of Russian studies in the world, the institute has energetically conducted a variety of Russia-related research projects; provided public sectors and businesses with professional consultations; engaged in academic exchanges with renowned domestic and foreign academic institutions; organized annual international conferences; hosted scholars and experts giving lectures or participating in workshops.
