I) About the Thesis Students who have completed 18 graduation credits Submit the thesis proposal Students who have competed 33 graduation credits Apply for thesis oral defense II) Interval Examination (Oral Defence) Eligibility for the Oral Examination:  From four months after successful completion of the thesis proposal review, a student may apply for the oral examination, provided that the thesis has:  been processed through the University's plagiarism detection system;  received written approval from the supervisor;  passed the departmental preliminary graduation review; and been endorsed by the Head of the Institute. Upon completion of the above procedures, the application for the degree examination shall be submitted to the Office of Academic Affairs for secondary review and approval, after which the oral examination may proceed. Registration Requirements:  Students shall, within the deadlines prescribed by the University, register their thesis title, supervisor(s), and oral examination. In principle, the supervisor shall be a member of the academic staff of the University; however, where special circumstances apply, a suitably qualified external supervisor may be appointed. Examination Committee: The oral examination committee shall consist of not fewer than three members, including the supervisor, with at least one internal examiner and one external examiner. Members of the committee shall be appointed jointly by the Director of the Institute and the supervisor. Assessment and Retake Regulations:  The thesis oral examination shall be deemed to have been passed where more than one half of the examiners approve and the average mark awarded is not less than 70. The oral examination shall be held once in each semester. student who fails the examination and whose maximum period of study has not yet expired may apply for one re-examination only.  The mark obtained in the re-examination shall be recorded as the final result. A student who fails the degree examination after re-examination shall be required to withdraw from the programme. Language of the Thesis Master's theses shall normally be written in Chinese. A thesis may alternatively be written in English or Russian, provided that the thesis title and abstract are submitted in Chinese. III) Institution Transfer Regulations This office only accepts transfer-in applications; transfer-out applications are not accepted. Transfer-in applications must follow the procedures announced by the university for the current semester IV) Implementation These regulations shall take effect upon approval by the Institute Council and subsequent filing with the Office of Academic Affairs for record. Schedule: Procedures for Thesis Proposal Review and Degree Examination Graduate Institute of Russian Studies, National Chengchi University Last updated: 30 Jan 2026 I) Thesis Proposal Review Application Period After the thesis supervisor has confirmed the composition of the review panel and the proposed review date, students may submit an application to the Institute Office. Notes Students must have completed at least 18 credits counted towards graduation and must have passed the Academic Research Ethics Education course or obtained an approved exemption before applying for the thesis proposal review. Students shall complete and submit the Thesis Proposal Review Application Form (available for download from the Institute’s website). II) Oral Examination (Thesis Defence) (Students may apply for the oral examination no earlier than four months after passing the thesis proposal review.) Application Period From completion of semester registration until the suspension-of-study deadline specified in the University Academic Calendar for the relevant semester. Notes Students shall verify completion of all required credits by reference to the Institute’s Course Completion Checklist. Students must complete thesis title registration via the University iNCCU system. Only after successful thesis registration may students proceed to apply for the degree examination. Application for the Degree Examination shall be submitted via: iNCCU / University Administration Web Portal / Academic Affairs Information System / Student Information System / Academic Services / Degree Examination Application System. Students must complete the personalised eligibility check and print the application form for submission to the Institute Office. The following items must be correctly recorded or passed before an application can be accepted: English name Thesis registration Academic ethics course Chinese language proficiency (for international students, where applicable) Prior to the degree examination, students shall complete a thesis similarity check and submit the similarity report to their supervisor for confirmation. Instructions for the similarity checking system: http://lib.video.nccu.edu.tw/p/turnitin-student2 The degree examination must be completed no later than the end of the semester in which the application is submitted, as stipulated in the University Academic Calendar. Two Weeks Before the Oral Examination Students shall confirm the examination date with the Institute Office, and the Institute shall issue formal invitation letters to examination committee members. On the Day of the Oral Examination Students should arrive early at the examination venue to confirm that all required equipment is available and functioning properly. Students who have passed the degree examination but wish to defer graduation (provided their maximum period of study has not yet expired) shall complete a Graduation Deferral Application Form, which will be submitted together with the degree examination results to the Office of Academic Affairs (Registrar’s Division) for student status processing. III) Post-Examination Procedures and Leaving the University After the degree examination results have been officially recorded, students shall, within one month from the beginning of the following semester, complete thesis submission and all graduation and leaving-the-University procedures. Students who fail to complete these procedures within the prescribed period but remain within the maximum period of study shall be required to register for the subsequent semester. Students who have exceeded the maximum period of study shall be withdrawn from the University. Prior to uploading the electronic thesis, students must obtain their supervisor’s signed Consent Form for Academic Quality of the Electronic Thesis. Students shall complete thesis submission and leaving-the-University procedures in accordance with University regulations, and submit the required hard copies of the thesis as follows: Two hardbound or paperback copies to the University Library; Two paperback copies to the Institute Office.   Note: This English version is provided for reference only. Upon submission of this Declaration and confirmation by the Office of Academic Affairs that the student has satisfied all graduation requirements, the student shall be formally recognised as a graduate. Access to University systems and facilities shall expire in accordance with the regulations of the relevant administrative units. Students who undertake overseas study or remain enrolled in coursework during the intended graduation semester shall submit this Declaration between the start of the final examination period and the end of that semester. Students intending to graduate in the same semester as the degree examination must submit this Declaration to the Office of Academic Affairs: by 1 March for the first semester; or by 1 September for the second semester. Only upon submission by the applicable deadline may the student graduate in the degree examination semester. Students who fail to submit this Declaration by the deadline specified in Note 3: if they remain within the maximum period of study, shall be required to register and pay tuition fees in the semester following the degree examination;  if the degree examination semester constitutes their final permitted semester of study, shall be withdrawn from the University in accordance with University regulations.
