2025 International Conference
2025 International Conference "War and Peace: Russia and Eurasia - Development and Exploration"
Call for Papers
Graduate Institute of Russia Studies
National Chengchi University
The Russia-Ukraine war is regarded as one of the most contentious and consequential events of our time, significantly impacting international security and global political and economic dynamics. Since the outbreak of the Crimea crisis in 2014, tensions between Russia and Ukraine have continued to escalate, culminating in the full-scale war that began in 2022. The ramifications of this military engagement have not only been profoundly impactful on the geopolitical landscape of the region, but have also exerted a profound influence on the global security, political, economic, and social structures. In this context, the high-level U.S.-Russia talks that took place in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, on February 18, 2024, represent a significant milestone in the ongoing diplomatic engagement between the two nations.
This meeting, the most substantial since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, underscores the commitment of both countries to explore avenues for peaceful resolution and the establishment of a stable and secure environment in the region. The meeting also represented a concrete step in fulfilling President Trump's campaign promise to facilitate ceasefire negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. However, Ukraine was notably absent from both the lead-up and the actual discussions, sparking frustration from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and raising concerns among European allies.
In response to these developments, this academic conference aims to foster scholarly exchange and examine the current geopolitical landscape and future trends in Russia and the broader Eurasian region amid the ongoing war. We warmly welcome submissions from both domestic and international scholars to contribute to the discussion. Additionally, the conference will feature a dedicated session for master's and doctoral students, encouraging their participation through paper submissions. Outstanding student papers will be selected for recognition, with awards including certificates and monetary prizes as a form of encouragement.
