2026 International Conference
“Russia and the European Union at a Crossroads”
~Call for Papers~
Graduate Institute of Russia Studies
National Chengchi University
The Graduate Institute of Russian Studies at National Chengchi University is pleased to announce an international conference titled “Russia and the European Union at a Crossroads”. We invite scholars, experts, and students to submit their research for this upcoming forum.
Conference Overview
The outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine war in 2022 represents the most significant geopolitical tremor in 21st-century Europe, it marks the definitive collapse the post-Cold War vision of a "Greater Europe". The previous era of mutual economic dependence and energy resilience aimed at creating a common space "from Lisbon to Vladivostok" has been replaced by a "long-term confrontation" and a systematic "total decoupling". This shift has fundamentally reshaped global energy politics and forced a redefinition of European security and values.
This conference seeks to bring together specialists in international relations, economics, law, and geostrategy to examine the long-term impacts of this conflict and envision the emerging order across Eurasia.
Proposed Themes for Submission
We welcome original papers addressing, but not limited to, the following areas:
Geopolitics and Security Restructuring:
The evolution of EU "strategic autonomy" and the role of Russia amidst ongoing conflict.
Confrontations regarding NATO's eastern enlargement and the EU's security role.
Strategic balance and militarisation within the Baltic and Black Sea regions.
Energy Decoupling and Economic Sanctions:
The intersection of the EU's green transition and its efforts to end Russian energy dependence.
The efficacy of sanctions on the Russian domestic economy and its foreign policy.
Global supply chain realignment resulting from the Russo-European economic break.
Information Warfare and Digital Sovereignty:
Challenges to EU unity posed by Russian hybrid warfare and disinformation.
The role of AI technologies in modern state-level confrontations.
Public opinion, nationalism, and the formation of opposing narratives.
